Take Five: Nolan Seeks Female Villain and Love Interest for Bruce Wayne 3

Nov16

Christopher Nolan is out to search, not one, but two beautiful actresses to act alongside Bruce Wayne. One will play as Bruce’s love interest, and the other will take the villain role. Too much pretty girls always make life more complicated. No exception for Batman here, it seems.

The names of actresses that is rumored to meet Nolan for considerations are: Rachel Weisz,  Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, and Keira Knightley. Pretty impressive list. We don’t know about you, but the names sound promising. We can’t wait to know who Nolan will pick for the leading roles.

In other updates, three other names have also been rumored to meet the director. They are Marion Cotillard, Tanit Phoenix, and Piper Perabo. Knowing that Nolan often invites actors and actresses he had worked with to his new project, we’re not surprised with the new names.

There are two possible roles for the two actresses. We don’t know for sure if they will really come out in The Dark Knight Rises, but here’s the guess: Catwoman and Talia Al Ghul. People have been waiting for Nolan’s version of Catwoman. Michelle Pfeiffer‘s Catwoman in Batman Returns (1992) was legendary, and Halle Berry’s Catwoman (2004) was a failure. So, it would be interesting to see the talented director’s reinvention of the feline villain.

So, these are five girls we think Nolan will pick for the leading roles:

1. Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts was born on 28 September 1968. The British-Australian actress had her breakthrough role in David Lynch‘s Mulholland Drive (2001), where she got a lot of praise, and subsequently brought her to fame. Watts got her Academy Awards nominee as Best Actress in 21 Grams (2003), and often called “the queen of remakes” by the press. Her ability as an actress is unquestionable, and she would be a great addition to the last Batman installment. Perhaps, Wayne will have a blond companion this time and no more brunettes.

2. Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman started her acting career when she was 13, partnering Jean Reno in Leon (1994). Her long filmography includes blockbuster and indie movies, with Star Wars trilogy going side by side with Garden State (2003) and My Blueberry Nights (2007). Throughout her career, she had received a lot of award nominations. For her acting in Closer (2004), she received an Academy Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress, as Alice Ayres/Jane Jones. Portman have proved her quality, and we won’t doubt that she will make a good villain or romance partner for Bruce Wayne.

3. Anne Hathaway

We have never seen Anne Hathaway acting as a villain, and to be honest, we’re not sure how to react when she plays one. We think we’re more comfortable seeing Hathaway playing a nice girl. So, Bruce Wayne’s love interest, yes. Catwoman, no. Anne Hathaway had her breakthrough performance in The Princess Diaries (2001) as Princess Mia Thermopolis. She often played characters in a movie that is set in the past, like Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Becoming Jane (2007). She also wear gown often, in Ella Enchanted (2004), Nicholas Nickelby (2002), and Alice in Wonderland (2010). Maybe it’s because of her classic look.

4. Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard is the only actress in this list who had worked with Christopher Nolan before. With Michael Caine and Tom Hardy already jumping on board, will Cotillard join in and take part in Inception cast reunion too? We’ll see about that. This French actress had only been introduced to Hollywood in recent years, but she had been quite a success. She joined the prestigius list of Oscar winner after receiving Academy Awards for Best Actress in La Vie En Rose (2007). She is the only French actress in history who won the trophy for a performance in French language. Awesome.

5. Rachel Weisz

Oh yes, we can absolutely picture Rachel Weisz playing a baddie, and we’re looking forward to it. We’ve been told, if you have a hard time imagining Weisz doing bad stuffs, try watching The Shape of Things (2003). We’ve taken it into consideration, and maybe you should too. A lot of people wants Weisz to play Catwoman, and we’ll be really happy if it happens. This English actress first gained wide recognition after playing in The Mummy (1999) as Evelyn Carnahan. She won an Academy Awards for Best Actress in The Constant Gardener (2005). Her classic beauty and powerful acting is a guarantee of quality.

That’s it from Five Things. The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for release on July 20 2012. Look forward to seeing two new beautiful faces from this list. We’ll be reporting new updates, so stick around.
