Five Things about Emma Watson 2

Nov18

Emma Watson had been a witch for a decade. After completing the final shot for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this year, she is ready to set her wand and robes aside to live a new life as a Hollywood starlet.

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, 15 April 1990. Her parents, Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson divorced when she was five. Prior to the divorce, Watson and her younger brother, Alex, moved to Oxfordshire to live with their mother.

The pretty girl didn’t originally want to be an actress, but fate had a different plan. The school Watson attended, The Dragon School, was known to have an outstanding drama department. The casting directors of the Harry Potter film held an audition at her school. Her teacher nominated her and a few friends. Apparently, Watson impressed the producer and director. Several months after the initial audition, Watson, along with future co-star Rupert Grint, was sat down in an office and told she’d gotten the part of Hermione Granger. The rest is history.

Filming the blockbuster was not without trouble. Watson confessed that she nearly quit her role in the Harry Potter movie. “It was mainly to do with scheduling and I had a real fight on my hands to ensure that I was able to go to university and I was able to sit my A-levels, because the schedule they handed to me didn’t really allow for any of that and I just wasn’t prepared to let it go,” Watson said. But the film makers decided to move the schedule so that Watson would be able to continue her role. “They essentially moved the Harry Potter film schedule around my exam dates, which was amazing. It all worked out.” Oh yeah, we’re happy about that too. Beside, can you picture someone else replacing Emma Watson as Hermione Granger? We don’t think so.

These are Five Things about Emma Watson:

1. Hermione Granger

To separate Emma Watson and her image as Hermione Granger is not an easy task. Hermione Granger had been a part of Watson in the last decade, and fans are not going to forget that anytime soon. The smart and brave witch was portrayed perfectly on screen by Watson. True, the Hermione Granger we saw on the movies are not completely the same with the characters that we read on the books. Who would have pictured Hermione looking that gorgeous on Yule Ball? And, Watson added a little edge to the character too. Granger is not all books and theories. She flicks wand and punches annoying boys just as good. In Watson’s hand, Hermione is a witty and tough young woman, not to mention, hell of a witch too. Watson makes Granger kicks ass.

Only recently, Watson tried to create a different look. After done with filming the whole Harry Potter series, Watson paid a visit to the salon and had her hair chopped. The new pixie cut stirred a lot of controversies with people commenting on her abandoning the ‘Hermione’ look. Watson who was obliged to keep her hair long throughout the filming of all seven Harry Potter books had been wanting to give her hair a cut since she was 16. It is true that the reason behind her hew hairdo was partially because her long locks were so associated with her role as Hermione, but she also had her own reason. “My mother has this haircut and this has been her signature look since she was, like, 16. I just always thought it was really cool and wanted to try it.” We think she still looks cute with the new ‘do. So, no problem here. Beside, hair grows, people.

2. Family

For Emma Watson, family is very important. When she was young, her father, Chris Watson, used to read Harry Potter book to her and Alex. This had fueled her into auditioning so fiercely for the role of Hermione. Chris Watson often accompanied his daughter to premieres and promotional tours, and Watson herself is quite the daddy’s girl.

Watson is an older sister to four siblings. Her oldest sibling, Alex, is the closest to her. They both were also chosen as Burberry models for the Spring/Summer 2010 Campaign. Alex also appeared in Emma’s fashion director debut, modelling her clothing line for “Love from Emma” for People Tree. The other younger siblings, Toby, Nina, and Lucy, are half-siblings from Chris Watson’s marriage with stepmother Julie Watson. Watson’s relationship with her stepmother seems good. Julie also appeared quite often at Watson’s premieres and outings. Her mother, Jacqueline, opted to stay in the background and made less appearance in public with her daughter, but they maintained a solid relationship. Her parents divorce didn’t seem to negatively affect Watson. She seemed to cope very well.

3. Movies

Emma Watson’s first appearance outside the Harry Potter movie was BBC’s 2007 film, Ballet Shoes. She starred as Pauline Fossil in this adaptation movie of Noel Streatfeild‘s novel of the same title. Ballet Shoes was broadcasted in the UK on Boxing Day 2007 to an audience of 5.7 million viewers, despite generally poor reviews.

The following year, Watson voiced her first animated character in a children’s comedy, with the role of Princess Pea in Universal Pictures’ The Tale of Despereaux. She starred alongside Dustin Hoffman, Sigourney Weaver and Matthew Broderick. The Tale of Despereaux was released in December 2008 and grossed $87 million worldwide.

In her first post-Harry Potter film, Watson will be playing in the upcoming My Week with Marilyn as Lucy, a wardrobe assistant who has a few dates with the main character, Colin Clark.

4. Fashion

Emma Watson is without a doubt, a new icon in the fashion world. Her smart and stylish appearance inspired many, and her taste in clothing is much admired. Watson has developed a great sense of fashion and very supportive to the British fashion industry. Watson was chosen to be the face of Burberry twice, in Autumn/Winter 2009 and Spring/Summer 2010 campaign. She had also appeared in numerous magazine covers, and photographed by the world’s top fashion photographers including Karl Lagerfeld, Mario Testino, Nick Knight and Patrick Demarchelier.

At the end of 2009, Watson took the role of Creative Consultant for a organic and fair trade pioneer, People Tree. Emma helped founder Safia Minney to provide insight and design clothing, all of which were made under and sold under fair trade standards. Her clothing line for teenage range for Spring/Summer launched in February 2010 and brought a whole slew of brand new publicity not only on her but also on the harsh realities of clothing development and unfair treatment of clothing production workers. Watson said that she had designed a range that was not only fashion wise but also ethically savvy. Her relationship with People Tree continues as she collaborates with the company on their Spring/Summer collection for 2011.

Recently, Watson was also said to have teamed up with designer Alberta Ferretti to help design a brand new line of clothes. “We are doing an organic clothing range,” she said. The creative inspiration behind the collection is “very classic, 60s Jane Birkin.”

5. Music

Emma Watson never had any intention to step into the music industry, but she did make friends with musicians. In mid 2010, Watson was said to be involved with George Craig. Craig is a vocalist of a British indie rock band called One Night Only. Watson and Craig met when doing a shot for Burberry’s campaign. They rumors went on for a couple of months until they were rumored to have broken up in September 2010 due to long distance relationship issue. Their short lived romance produced a sweet memorabilia in the form of a music video. Watson made an appearance in One Night Only’s music video for a song titled Say You Don’t Want It. The music video showed twenty-year-old Watson and nineteen-year-old Craig running around town together, with a cute twist at the end. Watson, as always, looked charming in it.

That’s it from Five Things. A lot of people predict that Miss Watson will be a great star in upcoming years. So, there will be a lot news on this one. Stay tuned for more information about your favorite witch, err, actress.
